Marie in Smetana’s The Bartered Bride at Bayerische Staatsoper
February 17, 2026 @ 6:00 pm

Emily Pogorelc returns to the Bayerische Staatsoper to make her role debut as Marie in Bedřich Smetana’s beloved comic opera The Bartered Bride. This production marks her first engagement with the house since completing her tenure in the ensemble (2020–2023).
Set in a Czech village where love, money, and misunderstanding collide, The Bartered Bride blends humor with heartfelt emotion. When Hans strikes a dubious bargain with the marriage broker Kezal—without informing his beloved Marie—it sparks a chain of comedic chaos that only resolves at the final moment.
This production, directed by David Bösch, highlights the opera’s delicate balance of seriousness and satire, brought to life in Max Kalbeck’s popular German translation.
