Dresden, Germany – Rising opera star Emily Pogorelc will take on the role of Amina in a new production of Bellini’s beloved opera La Sonnambula directed by world-renowned opera singer Rolando Villazón at Semperoper Dresden. This will be a landmark moment for Pogorelc as she makes her house and role debut at the esteemed opera house. The production will be conducted by Evelino Pidò. 

Pogorelc is currently an ensemble member of the Bayerische Staatsoper and has previously performed at renowned venues such as the Glyndebourne Festival, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Washington National Opera. Her repertoire is diverse and includes notable performances as Adina in L’elisir d’amore, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Cherubino and Juliette in Roméo et Juliette. Pogorelc’s upcoming performances include Soeur Constance in Dialogues des Carmélites and Xenia in Boris Godunow at Bayerische Staatsoper and ein junger Hirt in Tännhäuser at the Salzburg Osterfestspiele.

La Sonnambula, which tells the story of a sleepwalker who becomes the center of a scandal in a small Swiss village, is widely considered to be one of Bellini’s most beautiful and emotionally powerful operas. The new production promises to bring a fresh perspective to the opera under the direction of Villazón and is a co-production with Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Metropolitan Opera und Opéra de Nice Côte d’Azur.

At Semperoper Dresden, Pogorelc will join a cast including Georg Zeppenfeld, Maxim Mironov. Performances of Rolando Villazón’s new production will run from March 19th to May 5th.
