American soprano Emily Pogorelc is set to captivate audiences in her highly anticipated role debut as the title role in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor at the Bayerische Staatsoper. The performance, taking place on January 24, 2024, marks a significant moment in Pogorelc’s career as she steps into the virtuosic role for the ill Nina Minasyan.

Hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Emily Pogorelc is recognized as one of the most gifted singers of her generation, praised for her soaring, unique voice and captivating stage presence. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pogorelc has garnered acclaim for her performances at renowned festivals and opera houses worldwide.

Having debuted at the Bayerische Staatsoper in 2020 as an ensemble member, Pogorelc has since graced the stage in various roles, showcasing her versatility and artistry. Notable performances include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Sofia in Il signor Bruschino, Musetta in La bohème, and Ilia in Idomeneo. Her impressive repertoire also extends to roles in Dialogues des Carmélites, Hänsel und Gretel, and Boris Godunov.

In the 2023/24 season, Emily Pogorelc embarks on a series of major role and house debuts, solidifying her position as a rising star in the opera world. Following her portrayal of Servilia in La Clemenza di Tito at the Royal Danish Opera Copenhagen and a return to the Semperoper Dresden as Amina in La Sonnambula, Pogorelc is set to enchant audiences with her rendition of Lucia di Lammermoor.

The soprano’s journey continues with additional role and house debuts, including Lisette in La Rondine in her debut at the Metropolitan Opera, Cleopatra in Handel’s Giulio Cesare for Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and Servilia in La Clemenza di Tito in Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. 

After this role debut as Lucia, Emily will make her house debut at Staatsoper Hamburg on February 3, 6, and 9, 2024, where she will reprise the role.
